Radiation From Baby Monitors

We were never aware until recently that a baby monitor emits a high level of radiation. We had purchased one just before we had our child because we thought we definitely needed one. The one we bought was approx. $70.00 and just does sound not video. The brand is Safety 1st and we bought at Babies R Us.

The new ones have DECT which is the same technology used in newer cordless phones that most people use in their homes.

As it shows on the box it operates at a higher frequency then old technology to give interference free performance.

First off I plugged in the rechargeable unit that the parent would carry, probably on the belt as it has a belt clip. Using a microwave radiation detector we get almost 2000 microwatts per meter squared. This is at a distance of about 6 feet. That is an alarming rate for those not familiar with this reading. Similar exposure to standing outside a few hundred yards away from a cell phone tower.

I used another detection device which reads in micro watts per centimeter square. The other reading was in microwatts per meter squared.  This will be needed to read such a high reading we are getting off the baby monitor. This reads at just over 10 micro watts per centimeter squared which is really high. That works out to 100,000 microwatts per square meter. The other meter only went up to 2000. That's a lot of microwave radiation to have clipped on your belt!

The other part of the monitor of course get put with the baby. I made a video (below) of this test. It also gave some high readings as well and let you hear what this radiation sounds like. When we first started talking to people in the know about this stuff, they would say things like "Don't use this device around the baby as you are microwaving your baby!" That's was a hard statement to get our head around at first. We thought it cant really be that bad and its not really the kind of frequency/radiation we would find in a kitchen microwave.
But with a little Googling it's not hard to find out that it is! Just less power. Like a really low setting on the microwave. This put it into perspective for us.

We are inundated with radiation in our environment that is the equivalent of an extra slow cook on the microwave oven. We may not heat up but there is research on rats that this stuff toxic to our cells and genes.

If someone said it's ok to stick your head in microwave because its on a super low setting and said don't worry you won't get warm. Would you do it??

With all devices that emit radiation there are concerns about having it close to a developing child. Our children always seem more vulnerable to toxins in our environment and this is no different.

We don't live in a mansion so luckily we do just fine without a baby monitor. After all don't moms have super hearing anyway?

So now we have a baby monitor in the basement catching dust. Once you feel that it's not safe to use with your own child, what do you do with it? Do we give it away or throw it out? After reading this and you still feel that it's ok to use then you can have ours. It's sad though because we have jobs to do as parents, to be the protector and provider. Ultimately lots of children may be affected by this as many parents have not looked into the possible risks or choose not to believe these risks.

Who knows what the long term affects will be. This human experiment is just starting. Some of these carcinogens in our environment take years to break us down. We all know smoking is bad but smoking may not cause cancer until 20 or 30 years out. Could this low level radiation have a similar wearing down of the body? Many expert scientists think the answer is YES.

Check out Dr. Magda Havas from Trent University. She has lots of good videos on microwave radiation on her YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/magdahavas/featured
This video below covers a few different devices and she goes over the same baby monitor we have at about the 5 min mark.

I have looked online and only found one baby monitor and its also the one Magda Havas recommends. Its called Babyfon. The link to the website is: http://www.babyfon.com/en/products/bm_440_eco_plus.php

It has to be bought on Amazon in the UK. It doesn't come up in North America when searched for.
Heres the link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Babyfon-Vivanco-BM-440-Plus/dp/B000KKKV0Y

We might look into ordering one but we have been doing really well without one so far. So we will see how it goes.

I hope a few people get to see this blog and give some thought to putting these microwave baby monitors near there precious loved ones.

Making Green Juice

There may be no better way to provide a boost of green vegetables to your day then juicing. We try to have green juice at least 3 to 4 times a week.

Its a great way to get a huge serving of vegetables that is easy for the body to assimilate. Plus all the veggies are raw and therefore not damaged by cooking. Much of the life force of veggies is destroyed by heating.

We recently bought a new juicer call the Kempo. Its an auger type system that presses the juice out of the veggies. For many years we used the Jack Lalanne juicer we bought at Canadian Tire. It is still going strong but we like this one because its supposed to damage the juice less then the kinds that spin really fast. This results in a cold pressed juice and according to the manufacturer give you more nutrients.

Here is the spread of organic veggies. We always try to get organic as this is a concentrated amount of green so I do not want a concentrated amount of pesticides!

This is really an antioxidant blast with cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cucumber, curled parsley, cilantro, black kale, and ginger.

This will make a deep green drink which we love but if you are not used to this taste then you may want to limit the ingredients. Kale, broccoli and cilantro might be the best ones to leave out if you are just getting started with the juicing.

The thick veggies have to be diced down to fit into the juicer first. Celery and the leafy veggies fit in just fine. A small amount of ginger goes a long way.

So we are ready to go! I like to add in some of the white veggies like cabbage and cauliflower at least once a week to get some of the benefit of the these special veggies.

There is much on the internet about the benefits of juicing. Protection from many environmental stresses like toxins in our air, water and radiation like the kind from nuclear plants and wireless devices like cell phones etc.

We live in a new environment which is nothing like we evolved in. This green drink give the body a helping hand to handle all the new chemicals and lifestyle we are exposed to.

This juicer is no speed demon and if you are used to the rapidly spinning juicer this one might seem a tad painful at first. However it does get more juice out of the veggies then our old juicer also give a better quality. I used to be able to quickly make about two liters but now I am content with 1 liter due to the extra time needed.

Just about done. This Kempo juicer does a great job of getting all the juice out of the veggies. The only one it seems to have a bit of trouble with is cucumber. It can do it but I always end up with a juice build up in the chute where the plunger goes. Its good to alternate the cucumber with other veggies to prevent this. We just use less cucumber than we used to.

If your looking to maximize energy and longevity then this is a powerful alkaline elixir! All stuff we can easily get at a quality produce grocer. High in chlorophyll, vitamins and minerals. According to Dr Young at the Ph Miracle Center this green drink will help build quality red blood cells. This in turn will build a healthy body!

One thing we have found to be a result of drinking this regularly is that we never get sick. Not even a sniffle over the last few years. However this is just part of a healthy regime.

Sure it takes time to make but we have to look at the time savings of never having a person sick in our home.

We usually add some raw almond milk. We make raw almond milk which we will show in another post. This softens the flavour and it just seems more filling this way. We add one quarter almond milk to make a delicious green nut milk with just the right sweetness.

We no longer add any sweet veggies like carrot due to the high sugar content. Any more than half a carrot makes the juice almost to sweet for our preference. Same goes for fruit. We do not feel the need to add any to make the drinks taste better. The natural sugars in the green veggies seem to make it just right.

Baby watches the whole process! The good thing is he is getting the nutrients and flavours of the green nut milk through mamas breast milk. I have read that a babies taste for food are formed from the taste past on through the breast milk. We should have no trouble with the green veggies with Dawson!
